Our History

We, at Fountain Fresh Imports can trace our roots back to the 1940’s when Managing Director, Jack Hanson’s grandfather began serving the people of Ely on a weekly fruit and veg market.

Likewise, Operations Director, Andrew Lawrence can also boast a long family history in the fresh produce business as his father first ventured into the industry in the early 80’s.

Fountain Fresh Imports in its modern guise was founded in 2014 and has gone from strength to strength since its inception; Now operating from a large site on the outskirts of Wisbech with smaller bases in Murcia and Almeria, Spain, we are proud to grow and supply produce for the retail, processing, wholesale and catering sectors.

In addition to this we are in the enviable position of operating our own fleet of temperature-controlled heavy goods vehicles that serve businesses across the UK.

  • 1943

    The Hanson family began serving the people of Ely on their local fruit and veg stall. They would go on to run several local market stalls across East Anglia.

  • 1996

    Fountain Foods was opened as produce processing facility and was the first company in the now well-established, Fountain Group.

  • 2014

    Jack and Andrew opened the doors of Fountain Fresh Imports, working from a small office on the Fountain Foods site.

  • 2015

    The Imports business was moved to central Wisbech with a purpose built refrigeration unit able to hold just 26 pallets.

  • 2017

    After another period of rapid growth the Imports business moved to their very own site on the outskirts of Wisbech with refrigeration to store around 500 pallets.

  • 2019

    After several years of growth Fountain Fresh Imports decided to give something back to the area in Spain that had been so instrumental in their rise, Almeria, and specifically El Ejido, by sponsoring their football team for the 2019/20 season – a successful season where, against all odds, the club was able to win promotion to the highest division in their history.

  • 2020

    Investment was made in a 600,000sqm broccoli farm in Murcia to give deeper control of the supply chain.

  • 2021

    Phase 1 of site expansion began with 3 additional loading bays, 1200 pallets of cold storage and over 2,000sqm of yard space.

We are confident that Fountain Fresh can continue to grow and develop while continuing to operate with the core values and quality that have got us to where we are today.
